The Master's Program in National Security and Mainland China Studies (NSMC) was established in 2003 (ROC 92) in response to the Ministry of Education’s policy of promoting “Continuing Education in Higher Education.” It provides an appropriate pathway for elite professionals with aspirations to study international affairs.

Taking into account both the demand for talent in specialized fields and the development trends in academia, the Program focuses on two major areas: comprehensive national security and Mainland China studies, supplemented by courses in research methods, regional security analysis, crisis management, and strategic studies. Through well-structured curriculum planning, in-service graduate students are able to understand the interconnections between national security and Mainland China studies, as well as developments and trends in cross-Strait relations, thereby enhancing the quality and effectiveness of their professional work.

At present, while some public and private universities in Taiwan offer master's programs in Mainland China studies, none have integrated the field of national security. The establishment of NSMC not only fills this gap but also better meets the needs of training national professionals.

In addition to inviting faculty members from the Department of Diplomacy, Graduate Institute of East Asian Studies, and Graduate Institute of Russian Studies, along with other relevant departments at the university, the Program also recruits senior officials from government agencies and distinguished external professionals to teach, lecture, and hold seminars. This combination of internal and external expertise ensures a comprehensive and professional curriculum.
